Open enrollment is a great time of year to take a fresh look at all that Grainger offers. Be sure to review the materials on this page and use the tools throughout this site to help you make informed benefit choices.

Consequences of No Action

You must take action during open enrollment, even if you want to keep the same plan(s) you have now.
If you do NOT enroll, you will:

  • Default to the HSA Silver Plan at the same coverage tier you currently have (i.e., You Only, You + Family, etc.) or default to no coverage if you currently have no coverage through Grainger.
  • Miss out on the $450 tobacco-free incentive.
  • Have no 2019 HSA or FSA goal amounts.
  • Lose the opportunity to enroll in voluntary benefits like Hospital Indemnity, Accident, Critical Illness and MetLaw Legal Insurance.

Important Considerations

The following are several important things to keep in mind. For more information, visit the Eligibility page.

  • Qualified life events – If you have a qualified life event (such as the birth or adoption of a child, you get married or divorced, etc.), you have 30 days from the date of the event to make benefit changes. Call the Grainger Benefits Service Center for help at 1-888-477-3781. Select Option 3.
  • Children – Dependent children are eligible to be covered through the end of the month in which they turn age 26.
  • Spouse/partner/child(ren) who are also Grainger team members
    • You may choose to be covered under the medical, dental* and/or vision plans as either a team member or as a dependent, but not both.
    • For life insurance, you must be covered only as a team member and cannot be covered as a dependent spouse or domestic partner or child. If you enroll dependent child(ren) who do not work at Grainger, they may be covered by only one team member.*
    • If you enroll new dependents for 2019 who were not enrolled in 2018, you will be required to verify their eligibility. You will receive a Dependent Verification Request Notice in the mail with instructions after the enrollment period ends.

*Not applicable to part-time team members scheduled to work 20-29 hours per week.
**Team members without email will receive information in the mail.
