How It Works

  • Life insurance pays a cash benefit to your beneficiary(ies) if you die.
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance pays additional benefits if death is caused by an accident, or if you have certain serious injuries from an accident.
  • Grainger provides Basic Life and AD&D coverage at no cost to you. You have options to supplement the basic coverage with optional coverage at your own cost.

Who is eligible?

  • Regular full-time team members (Basic and Optional Life and AD&D)
  • Regular part-time team members who work 30-39 hours per week on average and so are eligible for full-time benefits (Basic and Optional Life and AD&D)
  • All team members (Business Travel Accident)

    Your Benefits Resources™. You are automatically the beneficiary for spouse and child life insurance.
  • If EOI is required, you will receive an email with a link to complete your EOI form on the Prudential website.

Life and AD&D Insurance Details

Basic Life and AD&D

  • Basic Life coverage equals 1.5 times your annual earnings* up to a maximum of $1.5 million.
  • Basic AD&D coverage provides, depending on loss, a benefit up to 1.5 times annual earnings up to a maximum of $1.5 million.
  • While Grainger pays the premiums for your Basic Life and AD&D coverage, the premiums paid for Basic Life coverage in excess of $50,000 is considered “imputed income” and taxable to you.

Your Costs

For You

  • Coverage options from 1 to 8 times your annual earnings*, up to a maximum of $1.5 million, payable in addition to Basic Life.
  • When first eligible, you can enroll for up to 3 times annual earnings (or $500,000 if less) without answering any health questions.
  • If you enroll for 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 times annual earnings, or elect to increase your current coverage by more than 1 times earnings, you will have to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI) via Prudential’s website before the coverage becomes effective.

For Your Spouse/Domestic Partner**

  • Coverage options in $10,000 increments up to $100,000.
  • When first eligible, you can enroll your spouse/partner for up to $30,000 without answering any health questions.
  • If you enroll for $40,000 or more, or elect to increase your current coverage by more than $10,000, your spouse/partner will have to provide EOI via Prudential’s website before the coverage becomes effective.

For Your Dependent Children**

  • Coverage options of $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000.
  • Flat rate covers all eligible children (birth to age 26, or any age if disabled).

Optional AD&D Insurance

To supplement the AD&D coverage Grainger provides, team members eligible for full-time benefits may choose to purchase optional AD&D coverage for themselves and eligible family members at their own cost. EOI is not required.

For You

  • Coverage options from 1 to 8 times your annual earnings*, up to a maximum of $1.5 million, payable in addition to Basic AD&D.

For Your Spouse/Domestic Partner**

  • Coverage options in $10,000 increments up to $100,000.

For Your Dependent Children**

  • Coverage options of $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000.

Business Travel Accident

  • All team members automatically receive business travel accident insurance at no cost starting on their first day of employment.
  • Pays a benefit if you are injured while traveling on company business.
  • Coverage equals two times pay, with a minimum benefit of $100,000 and a maximum benefit of $500,000.

* Based on your annual earnings as of your hire/eligibility date and on January 1 of each subsequent year, as long as you are actively at work.

** If your spouse, domestic partner or child is also a Grainger team member, you cannot elect coverage for that person, as he or she is already covered under Basic Life as a team member.
